Safety Tips

Safety Tip #3

For a burn caused by heat, never use an ointment, which may seal in heat and cause an infection, unless advised by a medical professional.

Safety Tip #2

On hot days, take frequent breaks to drink cold water, and make sure that ample cold water is available. Four (4) 8 ounce cups of water per hour is recommended.

Safety Tip #1

Never touch an electrical item, tool, on-off switch, light fixture, or outlet when your hands are wet or if you're standing on a wet or damp surface.

For a burn caused by heat, stop the heat source or break contact between the heat source and the skin first. The body holds heat and continues to burn until the skin cools, even with a minor burn, which can cause a person to go into shock.

Safety Tip #6

When working with pneumatic nail guns, wear safety glasses with side shields and hearing protection. Consider a face shield, work gloves, hard hat, and steel toed boots if the job task and/or site require added protection.

To prevent misfires, never pull, lift, or swing a nail gun by the hose.

Cuts in or around the eyes should be loosely bandaged to stop any eye movement until professionally attended. Don’t rub, press or wash the cut; this can cause further damage.

Bumps and blows to the eyes can be helped if a cold compress is applied for 15 minutes to reduce pain and swelling.

On hot days, choose water over sodas and other drinks containing caffeine or sugar.

To prevent strains and sprains: If you’re not sure you can handle the load, get help from another worker or break it down into smaller parts. If you can’t break it down, use a mechanical lifting device.
