URGENT – Cal/OSHA Lead Exposure Standards – Your Input Needed

Dear RCAC Members and Allies:

For several months, RCAC has been active in opposing a proposal by Cal/OSHA to create extremely restrictive lead exposure standards that will result in significant costs and administrative burdens to roofing companies (and other construction trades), as well as creating undesirable burdens on employees (e.g., frequent blood testing, decontamination showering, etc.). RCAC has led the formation of a coalition of more than 20 construction trade associations opposing the standards, organized coalition calls and meetings, testified at a hearing of the Cal/OSHA Standards Board, and helped coordinate a coalition letter in opposition to the standards.

Because of the severe implications of the standards to our members, RCAC has created a Cal/OSHA Lead Standards page here with resources for learning more about the proposed standards and what they will mean to your company.

We urge you to review the resources, then take the following actions:

  • Share The Truth About the Impact of Cal/OSHA’s Proposed Lead Standards on Construction with your employees and labor unions | VIEW
  • Copy the letter on page 2 of Take Action – OPPOSE – Lead Standards Revisions onto your company letterhead, add your company name into the first line, sign your name at the bottom, then mail to the Cal/OSHA Labor Standards Board (at the address on the letter) | VIEW
  • Encourage employees and labor unions to copy the letter, insert their name, sign the letter, and mail to the Cal/OSHA Standards Board

RCAC will continue to advocate for your interests in opposition to these standards, and we will update the Lead Standards resources and keep you informed as the process moves forward.

Please do not hesitate to email RCAC Executive Director Marc Connerly at mconnerly@connerlyandassociates.com with any questions about the lead exposure standards or the resources provided.

Best regards,

Marc Connerly, Executive Director
